When her husband was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer, diagnostic radiologist Jennifer L. Kemp, MD, FACR, got a firsthand glimpse into the anxiety that many patients experience while waiting for results. Inspired by her husband’s experience, Kemp developed a direct consultation program where her team of radiologists deliver results to patients immediately after imaging exams.
As part of the ACR Imaging 3.0 Initiative, this case study details how direct patient consultations are reducing anxiety, expediting care, and improving the overall experience at Rose Medical Center.
“Patients want their results as soon as possible so they don’t have to suffer the anxiety that comes with waiting,” Kemp says. “By reducing that waiting time, this service significantly improves the patient experience.”
